- Today, I attended the Crop for the Cure
that Debbie Mancini Wharff organized at St.
Francis Assisi in West Des Moines. Debbie
and her friends definitely know how to put on a
crop and it was their first time! This is
the start of an annual event and I encourage all
of you to attend next year. $ for registration
and everything else went to "Race for the
Cure" and there were consultants from
Leaving Prints, CTMH, Stampin Up, CM that also
gave all or a portion of their commission to Race
for the Cure. There was a silent auction
and chance raffle that you could participate in
and door prizes and goodie bags for everyone.
There was also a gal from the Des Moines
Chapter or the Susan G. Komen Foundation that was
selling merchandise and I bought the cutest pink
lightweight fleece pullover with the ribbon
ensignia appliqued on the front. Debbie and her
organizers provided breakfast items, hot cider,
coffee in the morning and then had maid rites,
veggie & dip, cheese & crackers, potato
salad and beverages for lunch. We didn't
have to go anywhere to eat.....but I still only
got 4 pages completed, I spent too much time
yaking....imagine that.....LOL! I had
family & friends sponsoring me per page and I
raised $40 in donations which won me a prize for
most donations. I also won a door prize of
a pair of ankle socks with the breast cancer pink
ribbon on the sides. On behalf of Iowa
Memory Divas I donated several door prizes for
the cause also. I don't know the final tally; and
I hope Debbie posts them when she can, but I'm
sure over $5000 was raised today just at that one
event.....Too Cool!!!!!!!! It was a great way to
spend the day!
- "Thank you for doing this. I'm a 31 year old
breast cancer survivor"
- "It as a good cause, well planned, the best
crop I have ever been to."
- "Exceeded my expectations."
- "I was impressed by the level of
organization - we could tell a lot of work went
into this super event! I had a blast - thank you"
- "Thanks for letting me be part of your
fundraiser; it was a great event and it seemed
like everyone was enjoying themselves"
